Darul Uloom Supports Govt.’s “Swachchh

response to a letter received from the Ministry of Urban Development, about
supporting the “Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan” (Clean India Campaign) launched
by the Prime Minister of India, Darul Uloom VC Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani extended
his appreciation and vowed to support the campaign in order to get the country
his letter, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Urban Development, Housing &
Urban Poverty Alleviation & Parliamentary Affairs referred that in view of
Darul Uloom significant spiritual and philosophical role in the society the
Govt. expects it to get the Muslims involved in this campaign.
Uloom VC emphasized that “lack of cleanliness had been a major issue of our
country. As it is a social curse, it affects negatively the human and
environmental health. It is a pity that even after 67 years of freedom we could
not get rid of this evil.” He appreciated the govt. move and said it is “an
appreciable step, though taken very late”.
also made some references to the teachings of Islam about cleanliness. “Islam
gives much importance to cleanliness and purity. The holy Quran says: “And
Allah loves those observing purity.”(Al-Quran 2:222 & 9:108) Also the
holy Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings be upon him) said while
emphasizing the cleanliness and purity: “Purity is half of faith.” (Sahih
Muslim, Hadith No. 432) Islam declares inner purity and cleanliness the highest
aim of humanity as it declares the external purity and cleanliness as half
portion of faith.
VC said that “Darul Uloom Deoband attaches much emphasis on cleanliness and
purity. Cleanliness is also a part of its training mission. The students
residing in Darul Uloom hostels are made apt to cleanliness and purity.” “Darul
Uloom Deoband had a separate Department of Cleanliness with 50 to 60 employees
who are busy in cleaning work, as Darul Uloom does not depend on Municipality
for cleanliness”, he said.
he wished all the countrymen to take part in “Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan”
and play an active role to make the atmosphere clean, so that the country could
always breathe in neat and clean environment.
